The Navara back on weekend duty
I arrived at Kalbar on Friday afternoon with the caravan for a two-night stay at the showgrounds. It was the first trip back driving the Navara after its water-pump replacement, and the first time it had returned to weekend duties since the EV5 took over as the daily driver.
I went with my daughters and some friends, giving us a full camping weekend around the Saturday-night event rather than just a quick run out to Kalbar.
The red wagon steals the weekend
The biggest highlight was watching all the kids have such a good time together. They became completely obsessed with going for rides in the red wagon and kept asking for more laps around the showgrounds.
They eventually broke the handle off it, but that did not slow them down for long. I had to jerry-rig another way to pull it, and the rides continued.
Bulls, bikes and Saturday-night action
Gates opened at 5:00 pm before the arena action started at 6:30 pm. Kalbar Super Bull combined top bull riders taking on rank bulls with freestyle motocross, food and the atmosphere of a busy country showground at night.
The bull riding and high-flying motocross made a strong main event, but the lasting memory from the weekend was how much fun the kids had before the gates even opened.
